Personal Information
Who are you? Heather!
How do I know you? Gosh there was some silly game with a motel in a desert town. Not sure you remember it. ;)
Preferred method of contact: Plurk, journal message, or e-mail, in that order.
Timezone: MST
Other characters currently in the game: N/A
Character Information
Character Name: Verolynn Dailleurs
Canon: OC
OU, AU, or CRAU: N/A
Canon Point: A little ways into her story. She's met and partnered with Hector, is aware of the other three people on the planet, has yet to discover the reason for the planet-wide evacuation she was left behind in.
Species: Human
Age: 28
Appearance: Red hair, brown eyes, 5'3", lean but strong. The past few months have been rough on her, surviving on a practically abandoned planet. She's got a few scars, doesn't wash her hair near as often as she'd like to, and has been stretching the hell out of the few cosmetics she's been able to get her hands on-- less because she feels she needs them and more because she found them and she may as well use them. Equipment-wise, she doesn't come off as the quiet, data-seeking information professional she is at first glance. She often wears a chestplate of some kind of futuristic armor, boots with photon boosters, and a black synthetic fiber suit beneath.
Background: Vero left Earth at the age of 19. She'd spent most her formative years looking to the stars, planning an escape from her terrestrial life to one of the various stations or colonies in far away worlds. It wasn't that she had a bad life there, she was raised by a single mother and had two older sisters and a younger brother she adored, but there was always something calling her, pulling her away from the mundane life on her home world. When the opportunity to study information science in one of the station universities came up, Vero leapt on it. She bid her mother and siblings goodbye, aware that space travel meant the very real possibility that she wouldn't see them for many years, if ever again. She promised to keep in touch over the various networks, and did just that throughout her time at school.
When Vero finished her MIIS, she recieved a job offer from the Grove Company, a multi-billion dollar corporation known for colonizing planets and funding large research projects in xenoecology. For the past 30 years, they had been both colonizing and studying a planet known only as C-814, inhabited only by an alien race known as the Relumians who were relatively tolerant of human presense near their settlements. The job paid well and meant that she'd have her foot in the door at one of the most successful companies in the universe and access to their massive database of information. However, she would have to make a five-year stasis commute to what was considered a dead system-- C-814 was the only planet in the system that had life on it and ships had no reason to pass through aside from official Grove business. Vero weighed the pros and cons and decided in the end to take the risk.
Several years later, Vero had settled in at the lab as a research assistant for the large scientific staff. She spent very little time outside of the Company compound, but managed to make friends in the security department and with her fellow information professionals. She even started dating one of the scientists she helped on a regular basis. Everything seemed to be going well, but Vero found that despite all the research she assisted with, she was still unsure what the lab's ultimate goal was on C-814.
One night, emergency sirens sounded in the compound. Vero found herself ushered into a shuttle full of stasis pods along with a handful of friends and coworkers. The security guards knew nothing beyond that they needed to enable a contingency protocol into the ships and enter stasis. The Company and Colonists were all meant to evacuate the planet immediately. Vero can remember squeezing the hand of the scientist she was dating and telling him she'd see him on the other side. More must have happened then, but a side effect of stasis involves a memory gap of up to 30 minutes prior to entering the pod.
The next time Vero opened her eyes, she was in a dark space, and she felt around to find she was still in a pod. With some desperation, she broke free and found that her shuttle had never made it off the planet. Most the pods of her coworkers and friends were broken and full of long decayed remains. In her shock, Vero was unable to comprehend what was going on, but with some time and distance, she can now surmise that she had been in stasis for close to twenty years. A few of the pods were opened and empty, and at first Vero assumed the worst. She spent months on her own, surviving on C-814 and scavenging both for food and information.
Eventually, she discovered that she was not alone-- the Relumians were still around, but more importantly, there were a few humans that had survived the shuttle crash. Vero first met Elsden, a Colonist who had also worked security at the compound. He had been raised on a farm on the planet, and thus knew how to grow and cultivate food. Vero also eventually came across Imber, another security guard, and Leon. Leon was the scientist Vero had been dating, but he seemed... different when they met, as though he couldn't entirely remember her. He'd partnered with Imber, and whie Vero had proposed the three of them team up, Imber seemed reluctant. Thankfully, Vero eventually befriended a man named Hector who claimed to be Leon's twin brother (and the resemblance was uncanny, aside from their different eye colors) and the two of them worked to survive together in the Colony mansion Vero had repurposed into her home base. Hector was interested in exploring the abandoned Grove sites, including the main compound, and Vero wanted more access to the Grove data hub so she could find out why the evacuation had happened. The two have come to rely on and trust one another, though Vero often feels guilty for keeping Hector's existence a secret from Leon.
In terms of personality, Vero has always been a soul possessed by a thirst for information and experience. She's not as brave or strong as some, but the situation she has found herself in has made her much tougher than she was before. Her determination to find out what the secrets are behind C-814 has led her into dangerous situations before, but she continues to keep up her quest for data. While she's friendly, it's difficult to earn her trust and devotion, if only because she's become shrewd in her struggle to survive. She's protective of Hector above all.
Home World Description: C-814 is a planet that is much smaller than Earth but has terrain that isn't too alien, including forests, fields, mountains, and lakes. The axis of the planet and its placement to its star gives it six-month seasons, but the winters are very mild outside of the north and south poles. The seas are not salty and the wildlife there is very different from Earth's. Colonists were able to import and breed some livestock including horses and steer, and while the planet's vegetation is palatable for them, it causes a change in personality that makes them far more difficult to tame. The Relumians (humanoid aliens with semi-translucent skin) were there before the Grove colonization but are not native to the planet either. One striking difference between Earth and C-814, aside from the various different flora and fauna, is that the sky is a darker blue and the stars can be seen in the sky at all times of the day. There are four moons of various sizes. The rainy season on the planet makes its land fertile and ideal for farming, but the storms themselves can be dangeous to be out in. So far only four other humans have made contact with Vero, though it's possible more have survived. Some of the creatures there are hostile, but thankfully the planet isn't overrun with them.
AU Info: N/A
CRAU Info: N/A
Powers/Abilities: Vero herself doesn't possess any unique abilities. She has survived as long as she has due to her stubborn nature, a good amount of luck, and the things she's managed to scavenge, including a prototype chestplate of repulsion armor with a built in shield generator and photon boots. She's a quick learner and knows how and where to seek information, and while she still needs some practice with both the generator and her boots, she's doing pretty well for someone with absolutely no military training. That said, having Hector around to patch her up when she's injured helps.
Does this character need to be nerfed? Nope, she's pretty normal. I kind of like throwing her around and getting her hurt and in trouble, so no godmoding here! ;)
Anything else? She's a new muse for me, so she might have some growing pains in terms of character development and story and such. But we've been through that before, right? /coughcoughLadoncough
